Behind the stories
Jaylen Jaymes
Jaylen Jaymes is a new adult author whose stories move across genres while exploring archetypes, identity, fate, family, power, and the strange scenarios that shape who people become. His work often blends emotional drama, supernatural elements, psychological tension, and characters caught between who they are, who they were, and who they are becoming.
A longtime storyteller with roots on Wattpad, Jaylen first joined the platform in the summer of 2010 (then known as Jaylen Hill). Within less than six months, his stories had garnered more than 50,000 reads and earned him a nomination in the Watty Awards, Wattpad's prestigious annual awards celebrating writers on the platform. He went on to win in the 2011 “On the Rise” category for Sinister Twin Sister, the same story that would later become his professional debut novel.
At the time, Sinister Twin Sister was a much different version of itself: lighter, more surface-level, and shaped by the perspective Jaylen had when he first began writing it. Still, the story found an audience. The series continued to grow, and in 2012, the second book received two Watty nominations. In 2013, the third book received two more. Across its original Wattpad run, the series generated a combined total of approximately three million reads, along with countless votes, comments, messages, emails, and years of passionate support.
Although a fourth book was promised, life's unforeseen circumstances pulled Jaylen away from writing for nearly a decade. During that time, however, readers continued to find him, even after he had stepped away and left very little digital footprint behind. Old supporters would send messages asking about the stories, the characters, and whether he would ever return.
In 2025, Jaylen finally did.
Returning to Sinister Twin Sister after fifteen years, he found himself looking at the original story with new eyes. The bones were still there, but the questions were different: Why did this scene happen this way? Why did this character make that choice? What was underneath the magic, the sisterhood, and the destruction?
That process led him to completely rebuild the novel from the inside out. The published version of Sinister Twin Sister keeps the spirit, some characters, and certain core pieces of the original Wattpad series, but it has been deeply reimagined into something darker, more psychological, and more emotionally layered. What began as a story about twin sisters and light magic has evolved into a novel about power, fate, identity, family wounds, reincarnation, and the terrifying possibility that even the bad things in your life are fated to happen.
Sinister Twin Sister marks both Jaylen's debut and his return.
